Arches

Whether linked in elaborate schemes or strategically positioned alone to frame a vista, the arch, in all its many forms, is a traditional garden feature, which has evolved since renaissance times. When designed to form part of a sequence of arches, they are referred to as tunnel arbours and arches in straight-line become arcades. Arches, which stand-alone or form part of a larger structure are often used as a plant support, although this use was not truly popularised until early in the 19th century. The classic rose arch has remained relatively unchanged in design since Victorian times.
